Acharavi is considered the largest touristy destination on the island after the city of Corfu. It is the economic and commercial center of the northern section, as until 2011 it was the seat of the former Municipality of Thinalia. Acharavi is built on flat land with dense vegetation, right in front of a vast sandy beach, of about 8 kilometers long.
Acharavi offers everything that a visitor would need on a destination. Along the seaside road, there are many taverns and coffee shops. Also, in the region, you will find many hotels and rooms you can rent for your stay. In the settlement you will find a clinic, pharmacies, banks, super markets, bakery shops and quite a few shops. In Acharavi you can visit the archaeological place of the Roman Baths where, you will see parts of the canal which conveyed water to the baths. On the main road, is situated the Folklore Museum of Acharavi with exhibits from the folk civilization of the island during the last 3 centuries.
The name of Acharavi probably comes from «achari ivi» as it is said, the region was a swamp and because of malaria, which ravaged the region, the appearance of the young was plain and pale, sickly looking.
From Acharavi you can visit many picturesque settlements such as the abandoned village Palia Peritheia but, also the mountainous villages Episkepsi, Nymfes, Klimatia and Agios Panteleimonas. In the west of Acharavi is located Roda , a touristy center, and in the east you will see the beaches Almyros and Agios Spyridonas . Do not forget to visit the lagoon of Antiniotis, one of the most important ecosystems of the island. Acharavi is at a distance of approximately 37 kilometers from the city of Corfu and it is connected to it by KTEL buses which run daily services.
